Today, June 21, 2017 would have been the 96th birthday of Jane Russell. A remarkably talented actress, her beauty has made men swoon for such an iconic woman. She also shook the Hollywood censors when Howard Hughes cast her in the leading role of Rio in The Outlaw. That was actually her film debut, and it allowed her to start on a film career that would eventually conclude with thirty different performances. She might have done well in that particular role, but her “external beauty” created controversy because of the film rating standards at that time. After that prominent role, she would later on achieve fame with the iconic Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. It is unfortunate that Jane Russell never received any major nominations, but she still earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She might have not been as iconic as other actresses, like Audrey Hepburn nor the unrelated Katharine Hepburn, but she still holds a special place in cinematic history with her voluptuous figure and talented acting.
