Ariana Grande to hold Manchester benefit concert, featuring Coldplay, Miley Cyrus and more
Never let it be said that Ariana Grande isn’t a class act.
The attack of her concert-goers in Manchester, England, last week by an exploding nail bomb that killed 22 people and wounded several others prompted her to put her Dangerous Woman tour on hold. Now, too, she’s put together a benefit concert for the families of the victims, and she’s enlisting some pretty big names to help her.
According to CNN, Ariana Grande enlisted the help of Coldplay, Katy Perry, Pharrell, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan of One Direction and Take That to raise money for the One Love Manchester concert, which will take place on June 4, 2017, at at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, England.
The proceeds from the concert will benefit the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which is working in partnership with the British Red Cross and the Manchester City Council to distribute money to the families of the victims.
In an open letter on Twitter, Ariana Grande denounced the terror attacks, calling the attacks “horrific” and urged her fans to come together through music, which can bring people together in a healing spirit.
“Music is something that everyone on Earth can share. Music is meant to heal us, to bring us together, to make us happy,” she wrote.
And though she hasn’t rescheduled dates for her Dangerous Woman tour, ticket promoters such as AEG are offering fans full refunds for any ticket sales.
Tickets for the Ariana Grande concert featuring all these superstars will go on sale June 1 through Ticketmaster.
The Manchester Attack happened at the Manchester Arena, right after the Ariana Grande concert. A terror network connected to the suicide bomber is still under investigation by the British authorities, though ISIS has taken credit for the attack. The attack was shocking because it marked the first time that young girls were targeted, since the majority of Ariana Grande’s fans are teenagers and young adults.
