The British Royal Family will never use these words
Have you ever wondered what kind of words does the British Royal Family use? Kate Fox, social anthropologist and author of ”Watching the English”, recently gave an insight into this, and it might surprise you.
For example, instead of ”pardon”, a member of the British Royal Family will turn to ”sorry?” or even ”sorry, what?”. Moreover, you won’t hear them using “toilet”, but “loo” instead, possibly because “toilet” is of French origin.
It is also advised to use the word “scent” instead of “perfume” and never ever use the word “tea” for the evening meal – go for “dinner” or “supper”.
Regarding a certain type of room in their palaces and villas, the Royals would refer to what the commoners know as a “living room” as a “drawing room” or “sitting room”.
Finally, if you want to seem elegant and royal, never refer to someone as being “posh”, but use the word “smart” instead. You might not be invited to the Buckingham Palace, but at least you’re going to seem more royal to your friends.
