Dwayne Johnson and Tom Hanks Toy with 2020 Presidential Run on ‘SNL’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that he would run for President of the United States in 2020 during his fifth time hosting Saturday Night Live.

Now, the only “logical” question to follow this “announcement” should be: Who will be Johnson’s running mate?

That would be none other than a fellow Five-Timers Club member, Tom Hanks.

“It’s funny, a lot of people have been telling me lately that I should run for president of the United States,” Johnson told Alec Baldwin during the opening monologue. This is of course in reference to a recent interview Johnson did with GQ, which speculated about his potential bid for the White House.

“It’s flattering, but tonight I want to put this to rest and just say once and for all: I’m in. Starting tonight, I am running for President of the United States.”

Johnson then brought up the subject of whom his Vice President would be. “He’s also in the Five-Timers Club. And like me, he’s very well liked. He’s charming. He universally adored by every human alive.”

Baldwin appeared overwhelmed; thinking his role in American politics wouldn’t be limited to impersonating the current president, Donald Trump. But, to his disappointment, Johnson called Hanks out on stage. The Oscar-winning actor seemed hesitant, but proclaimed: “I could not possibly turn this down.”

Johnson admitted that he would never have considered running for president in the past because he felt he was unqualified. However, in light of the recent election, he now believes he’s overly qualified.

“The truth is, America needs us,” Hanks said. He also added that we [Americans] could only agree on two things.

“Pizza and us [Johnson and Hanks],” The Rock interjected.

The running mates then began to make their case to the American people. Johnson’s ethnic ambiguity could appeal to all minorities, while Hanks could attract older voters, due to the fact that he had previously served in WWII. Well, his character in Saving Private Ryan did. He also pointed out that people are still thrilled to see him on airplanes, despite the fact that in two of his films (Sully, Cast Away), his plane crashes.

“When it comes to politics, we need more poise, and less noise,” Johnson concluded. It was at this point that a Johnson/Hanks 2020 banner and confetti dropped from the stage ceiling. “Americans deserve strong capable leaders, leaders who care about this country and care about its people.”

Now, as tongue in cheek as this whole situation is, Democrats and Liberals should be wary of running their own left-leaning celebrity for president in 2020, or anytime in the future. The New Republic, a liberal publication, has already argued that Democrats should run a celebrity for president too.

Shortly after Hillary Clinton’s defeat, Michael More said on CNN: “Democrats would be better off if they ran Oprah or Tom Hanks… why don’t we run beloved people?”

There were even reports a few months ago that Mrs. Clinton was considering launching a reality TV show of her own. Perhaps she and her staff believe it could help her gain popularity for a possible third run for the Oval Office, or, at the very least, a potential run for Mayor of New York City.

It should also be noted that NBC, the network that airs SNL, is at least in part responsible for Trump’s popularity. It was the network that gave him The Apprentice, where he was presented as the quintessential businessman, and even invited him to host SNL one year before the 2016 election.

When is the so-called “Resistance” going to realize that at least a small part of Trump’s win was due to a large portion of the electorate’s disdain for Hollywood, the media on the East and West coasts, and the entertainment industry in general, which they view as hostile towards their beliefs and culture?
