Sonic Forces: 3 different play mechanics
In the upcoming installment to the Main Series of Sonic the Hedgehog, gamers will be allowed to play in 3 different forms. Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic and a new character gamers can customize represent these 3 forms.
Through a brief gameplay trailer video, it was revealed by Sega and Sonic Team what the third playable character would be for their newest game called Sonic Forces. Alongside Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic the third playable character will be none other than a custom creation, as in it will be an original character that you, the gamer, can customize to whatever you want him or her to look like.
When it comes to customization, there are a total of 7 base animal types that gamers will be able to choose from, with each animal type having their own unique abilities.]
- Hedgehog – Collects rings when getting damaged
- Bear – Blows away enemies with a homing attack
- Bird – Flies high with double jump abilities
- Cat – Keeps 1 ring after taking a hit
- Dog – After the player loses a life, it will restart with 5 rings
- Wolf – Automatically draws in rings when near them
- Rabbit – Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
This new customized Hero character will be given a name by the player, and it’s completely up to the player what kind of accessories this character can wear. It is also worth noting that this character can carry varying weapons that will help the player get through levels. One tool that the Hero character will have with him or her at all times will be a Grappling Hook which can help the character quickly move through levels.
Regardless of what a player’s customized character looks like, he or she will be guaranteed to be featured in the main Story Mode of Sonic Forces. The general plot behind Sonic Forces is that Sonic and his friends are doing battle against Dr. Eggman, who is once again attempting to take over the world with the help of mechanized schemes, and the act of the customized character getting in on the action is described as “Joining the Resistance”.
The Create-a-Character feature isn’t new to video games as it has been around since the 1980’s. This feature has been constantly experimented on by many game developing companies, for games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Fallout, The Sims, various sports games and fighting games, and countless other examples.
Sonic Forces is due to be released out to market in the 4th quarter of 2017.
