Marvel’s reveals “The Defenders” trailer

Come as you are, to the show we’ve been waiting for.

It’s easy to say that Marvel has been dominating the entertainment world both on the big and small screen for years. Back in April, 2015, Marvel dropped Daredevil season one with season two dropping on March 18th, 2016. On November 20th, 2015, the world was given the gift of Jessica Jones season 1. In September of 2016 the world got to see the infamous and charming Luke Cage followed by the last of the Defenders, Iron Fist back in March of this year.

Each show it’s own sense of style to say the least. Matt Murdock, lawyer by day, crime fighting bad-ass by night deals with his internal struggles of fighting crime while still trying to be a good Christian. Not exactly easy but he’s trying.

In season 1 he takes on the Kingpin as he starts to develop his style of dealing with the “badguys” both legally and with his own special style of kicking-ass.

In season 2 we get to see Matt try to balance that life style with an old flame and new enemies coming to surface. It’s a crazy season with a lot happening but over all, is just as enjoyable as the first season.

Jessica Jones is a ”hard drinking, short-fused mess of a woman”. She’s a Private Investigator dealing with the demons from her past. Demons such as Kilgrave, who is nothing but an obsessive creep of a man. The show not only deals with the topic of rape but over all woman empowerment. It’s a powerful show taking a twist on the film noir genre that shows not all woman have to play well with others to be an enjoyable character to root for. Even when they’re smashing people through doors.

Luke Cage tells the story of a bullet-proof black man in Harlem. Luke’s a good guy with a dark past like all of our Marvel heroes are at the moment. He’s someone you root for from start to finish of the show. Not only do you get to see Luke clean up the streets, or at least try to, you get to learn a bit about the Harlem that was, not is, from various characters throughout the show. Luke is an ex con that just wants to do good as he fights his past and tries to save the city. It also has one helluva soundtrack.

Iron Fist was the last of The Defenders puzzle to fall into place. It follows the story of Danny Rand, returning to New York after being presumed dead for 15 years. Poor Danny thinks he can just reclaim his family’s business from it’s current owners, childhood friends Ward and Joy Meachum. Of course it doesn’t go that way, and he has to fight The Hand. Also known as, some Ninja’s that Matt sort of stumbled upon in season 1. Chaos ensues, we get some bad-ass lady fights from Colleen Wing, Danny’s love interest who is far out of his league and that’s really about it.

As these shows have developed, Easter eggs have been dropped aplenty as fans like myself waited for Marvel to finally say that The Defenders would be happening. Now, ever since that had been confirmed, we’ve been waiting for the show to actually start. These characters don’t exactly play well with others which is why I’ve been so excited for this show.

The relationships that have already been established in this show at the moment consist of everyone knowing Claire Temple, (at this point, she’s basically the Nick Fury of the Marvel Netflix verse) or have been involved with someone else in the team. Matt and Claire have a thing in season 1, her and Luke develop a relationship in his show, Jessica and Claire meet towards the end of season one and Colleen teaches Claire self-defence and that is how Danny knows Claire.

One of my favourite lines from the trailer comes from Stick, Matt’s mentor, ”The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, The Smart-ass Detective. The Righteous Ex-Con, and the Kid with the Glowing Fist. The war for New York is here. So get your shit together.” This is just one of those shows, with eight episodes, that I know will be a wild ride from start to finish. It’s been built up for years and looks like it will be 100% worth the wait.
