Long awaited sequel to THQ’s Darksiders franchise leaked by Amazon
THQ’s long dormant franchise is given new life by THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games as it is revealed that the developer is working on Darksiders 3, a game where you play as the first HorseWOMAN of the Apocalypse, Fury.
When THQ went bankrupt in 2013 many of its assets were sold off as part of the bankruptcy hearing. Vigil Games, developers of Darksiders, a game series where you play as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to try and restore the balance of good and evil to Earth, was not one of those assets. Vigil’s staff were dispersed and sent off to work at other studios with part of the core development team forming a new, VR focused company, Gunfire Games.
Eventually, the IP of Darksiders was picked up by Austrian publisher Nordic Games and hired Gunfire to remaster Darksiders II for the PS4 and Xbox One. It now appears that Gunfire have been working on a sequel to the cult hit series that has been inadvertently revealed by retail website Amazon. Noticed first by Gematsu, Amazon have listed Darksiders 3 as a product on their website with the release date of December 31st, 2018, along with some details.
For the first time ever a game in the franchise will feature a female protagonist, Fury. As the first two games featured War and Death respectively, this will also be the first entry in the series not to feature a character portrayed in the original representation of the Biblical quartet. According to screenshots, Fury’s main weapon appears to be a whip and she has a variety of magical abilities to add to her arsenal.
Other details have also revealed that her main antagonists will be the Seven Deadly Sins, whether these will be the traditional Catholic transgressions, a reimagining of them, or a combination of the two is unknown. The game’s environment has been described as ‘open-ended, living, free-form’ which could mean it is an open world like Arkham City or that it is several smaller environments, all with branching and twisting paths, connected together by a hub world such as the one found in Dark Souls.
It is unknown at this time if the date given is real date or a placeholder, but we will have more information as details are released.
