“American Crime Story” focuses on the assassination of Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace was the the face of the House of Versace. A bold, yet fierce fashion designer that wasn’t afraid to take his trends to the next level. He had friends in high places, such as Princess Diana, Elton John, and Sting. Unfortunately, on July 15, 1997 after returning from his normal morning routine run to the Miami Beach News Cafe, his life was tragically ended after Andrew Cunanan shot him twice in the head.

Season 2 of American Crime Story will depict the unfortunate story of Gianni Versce’s last days, the aftermath of his murder, and the man who was responsible for ending his life. Will it be possible to top the exuberant success from the first season? Creator and Executive Producer Ryan Murphy seems to think so.

Season 1 of ACS, which was the dramatization of the infamous “trial of the century”; The People v. O.J., received critical praise for it’s on the spot acting, accurate depictions of the courtroom dilemmas, and the classic Johnny Cochran phrase that everyone waited for.

While Versace’s story is vastly different, Mr. Murphy wants to keep the same themes from the previous thrilling season, that were prevalent in the 90’s and still today. “The more I had read about it, the more I was startled by the fact that Cunanan really was only allowed to get away with it because of homophobia,” stated Murphy. “There was this great apathy about it, and I think part of that was because it seemed like gay people were disposable in our culture.”

Edgar Ramìrez will play the ill-fated designer, Penelope Cruz will portray his sister Donatella, Ricky Martin is set to portray his longtime partner Antonio D’amico and portraying serial killer Andrew Cunanan is Glee alum Darren Criss.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story will take air in 2018. Until then you can watch the first season of American Crime Story on Netflix.
