“The Mummy” reboot kicks off Universal Studios “Dark Universe” franchise

Universal Studios’ most recent remake, “The Mummy” hits the big screens this weekend!

With a different but still somewhat similar storyline and new characters, “The Mummy” stars Tom Cruise as Nick Morton who uncovers the mummy (Sofia Boutella) and accidentally releases her.

Reviews for “The Mummy” have been negative so far, with many comparing it to it’s 1999 predecessor, but that hasn’t stopped Universal from continuing their debut of the “Dark Universe” Franchise.

“The Mummy” is just the beginning of the Dark Universe Franchise, as confirmed by director Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan. Next will be another beloved classic “Bride of Frankenstein” which will be directed by Bill Condon (Beauty & The Beast).

Angelina Jolie has been linked to the lead role while Johnny Depp & Javier Bardem have already confirmed their attachments to “The Invisible Man” & “Frankenstein” respectively.

Lately, reboots have been catching major flack for lack of originality and creativity, however; some have praised the idea of iconic films being remade as it gives the originals more popularity.

Do you think these reboots will be a success?
