JRR Tolkien book, published after 100 years
A new book by author JRR Tolkien, famous for his ”The Lord of the Rings” series, was just published, 100 years after being written.
The book is called ”Beren and Lúthien” and has been described as a ”very personal story”, conceived by Tolkien after returning from the Battle of the Somme.
According to Tolkien specialist John Garth, the author used the book as some sort of ”exorcism” after witnessing horrors on the front of World War I. “He’d lost two of his dearest friends on the Somme and you can imagine he must have been inside as much of a wreck as he was physically,” he explains.
”Beren and Lúthien,” edited by son Christopher Tolkien, tells the story of two lovers, a mortal man and an immortal elf, who try to steal from Melkor, the greatest of all evil beings.
JRR Tolkien is famous for the series ”The Lord of the Rings” and ”The Hobbit”. ”The Lord of the Rings” sold more than 150 million copies worldwide, while the film adaptation is one of the highest-grossing series in cinema history.
