Game of Thrones S7E2 Review

Theon, Theon, Theon.

So a bit of an interesting ending there. I don’t like Euron’s over-makeup and rockstar attire, but I’ll submerge my inner Bret Easton Ellis for a moment here.

The battle. Not the best. Very easy to spot the greenscreen, but hey it’s better than most battle scenes we see on television so who’s really complaining? We know they’ve got more than that up their sleeve, but it was too choppy and fast and shots of blood and death. But here’s the problem, we know when the episode ends if we’re watching it live, you have a sense of time that you don’t get with Netflix or HBO GO. For myself, knowing that a battle is starting when there is only eight minutes left is very anticlimactic, but maybe I should just tape my clock over like Snowden.

Will Varys be burned alive? SPOILERS FOLLOW

They filmed a man being burned alive on set this season. This is true, it is known. Big threat tonight by Dany and even worse that Melisandre is there to advise her. Who’s it gonna be?

Sansa becomes queen.

This season is really focusing on parallels, a HBO favorite. Sansa did not spend much of her time learning from Ned and Cat Stark, she spent her time whining and wanting to visit King’s Landing. She got it. She only learned from Cersei, and she now is one of the strong characters we’ve come to see in this show but will she have hubris?

And lastly, the leaving parallel. Nymeria bolts. Theon jumps ship. There’s room for one comeback on this train, but not for Theon. Its officially over for him.
