Celebrating Jane Austen’s legacy spanning two centuries
Learn about the enduring legacy of one of the world’s most beloved authors.
July 18, 2017, marks a very special anniversary for one of the most influential writers of all time. It has been two hundred years since Jane Austen’s tragic passing in 1817 at the age of 41.
Even though she is gone physically, her contributions to creativity and literature live on figuratively (but also physically if you count the printed novels and film adaptations as “physical objects”). Indeed, Jane Austen’s keen sense of the world around her, along with her romantic approach to provide social commentary, have resulted in some of the greatest novels and subsequent film adaptations the world has ever known.
Her work includes six novels, some juvenilia writing, and the unfinished novel Sandition. The film adaptations of novels have also boosted the careers of numerous Hollywood icons, such as Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Keira Knightley. There have also been popular parodies that offer a comedic approach to her novels, such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Jane Austen’s life has fascinated people ever since readers began enjoying her beloved romantic tales. Jane Austen really does live on thanks to the fans of her work, and all of the dreamers who believe in the power of love, hope, and creativity.
