Marvel confirms ending of “22-movie arc” and beginning of a new one

After 22 movies, Marvel believes it has reached a conclusion with the narrative arc of its current set of superheroes, as the Independent reports.

“This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 and then two months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man (on July 5, 2019) that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there,” Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, told the Toronto Sun.

However, his claims are not completely clear, considering that the sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is not likely to represent such a huge rupture from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films that came before it. It is more likely that the change is due to the main actors‘ contracts coming to an end, as Polygon writes.

Many of the actors have dedicated a decade of their lives to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are ready to let it go. “I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [MCU movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to do it one more time,” Robert Downey Jr. said. “I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”
