After the lost battle to Drake and break up to high profile relationship with Nicki Minaj – Meek Mill found a way to Bounce Back.

Hip hop fans have had the satisfaction to indulge in the amount of great albums that have been released this year so far ranging from Drake’s More Life playlist Album, Big Sean’s I Decided album, Rick Ross’s Rather You Than me album, Tinie Tempah’s Youth album, Wale’s Shine album, Joey Badass’s All AMERIKKKA album, Migos’s Culture’s album, Kendrick Lama’s DAMN album, Jay Z’s 4:44 album, 21 Savage’s ISSA album, Tyler the creator’s Flower Boy and the eagerly awaited Meek Mill Wins and Losses album.

After the impactful spat Meek Mill had between himself and Drake on July the 21st in 2015 by claiming that Drake used a ghost writer by the name of Quentin Miller to create his music on the BBC 1xtra show with DJ Sentex, a riff was created between the Dream Chaser Leader Meek Mill and the OVO Leader Drake. This claim led to the whole hip hop community now doubting the penmanship that Drake has which became the catalyst for the “Hotline Bling” hit maker retaliate which he did so with the release of the Grammy nominated battle song “Back to Back”. The song’s content was multiple witty insults at Meek Mill from criticizing his contribution to the hip hop culture, his position as a man in his relationship, and his intelligence level.

The “Back to Back” track soon became a hit as it reach Number 1 on Hip hop and R&B Itunes Chart. The accomplishments of the “Back to Back” track was seen as a win to Drake by the hip hop community as it led to a trend of doubt in Meek Mill’s capability as an artist on social media and created a false narrative of Meek Mill as a symbol of loser or lost. The symbol or term “L” became a narrative to address Meek Mill whenever he had a dispute with any other member of the hip hop world e.g. his battle with 50 Cent, The Game and Benie Sigel.

The world wasn’t only watching Meek Mill’s Battle with public figures and fans; their focus was also on Meek Mill’s high profile relationship to the award winning artist Nicki Minaj. The impact of this relationship was at the core of the popularity of Meek Mill’s new found fan base as a power couple in the hip hop genre culture. Meek Mill decided to start releasing music again to see if the fans still paid attention to his art. On the 27th of October 2016 Meek Mill release his long awaited DreamChaser 4 Mixtape which sold over 95,000 copies according to US billboards chart on its first week. This music project was packed with Hit tracks such as “Litty” Featuring Tory Lanez which is Certified Gold according to RRCA and the fans favourite heartfelt track “shine”. He continued releasing music video featuring Quavo, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Pusha T, Gourdan Banks and with each of these songs averaging in over a million views on YouTube and Spotify Plays it was safe to say that the Philadelphia Rapper was back on the for front of hip hop.

On the 24th of May Meek Mills announced the release of his newly anticipated album entitled Wins and Losses. This created a number of rumors as what he would be talking about in his album e.g. will the album content be about his feud against Drake, will it be about his newly break up with Nicki Minaj, or will it be about how to navigate in the music industry when everyone counts you out. No one was really sure what the final details of this album could be about but one thing we could confirm was that the Rap world was looking forward to hear what he hard to say.

On the 7th of July 2017 Meek Mill prepared the roll out of his Wins and Loses album by releasing ten minutes short films every Friday until the release day which was on the 21st of July 2017 Exclusively via Jay Z’s streaming service called Tidal at 09:00 am then on YouTube in the evening at 18:00 pm later.

Throughout his Media run Meek Mill stopped by Hot 97 Radio station to have an intense interview to speak about the controversy he has had in the last two years to come to the creation of this new album. Ebro (the director and presenter of the morning show) got right to the point about questions towards Meek Mill’s mind state when he was battling Drake and Meek Mill responded with “I was high, taking drugs and drinking cough syrup and it was clouding my judgement” he went on to explain how his drug abuse and the fact that he had social media outlets at his finger tips was the catalyst to his emotional behaviour and abrasive response to other artist and also over exertion towards other musician that he has helped in the past who don’t want to cross promote his album on their social media platform as he has done for them in the past.

Meek Mill went on to speak about his relationship and break up with Nicki Minaj but kept it brief as he doesn’t want bloggers or gossip site to pick up on anything they may deemed negative towards Nicki Minaj.

Ebro took to the microphone to ask Meek Mill about what he meant by the title “Wins and Losses”, Meek Mill explain it was more to do with the lessons he learn from all the trial and tribulations he has been through for the last two years in his private life, the people that he hold dear who passed away, and the people in the music industry he felt has his back turned on him.

It’s a week later of the release of the Wins and Loses album and Bloggers such as Complex News, Rapradar and Everyday Struggle say that Meek Mill is back. Introspective songs like “1942 Flow” “Heavy Heart” and “Made it from Nothing” speaks about his background and upbringing from being on the street as a drug dealer to now becoming this Artist who people just want to see fail and songs, speaks on how his success has brought out the worse in his peers as the only around him because of the money he gives them and how he uses his success to provide for his family.

Some say this is Meek Mil’s best album, other say it is still to early to decide if this album is his best project yet but one thing we can confirm is that he turned his pain into a piece of hip hop art.
