Opinion: Jay Z recreates the Friends intro in “Moonlight” video and fans love it
Rapper Jay Z recreates an iconic remake of the 90s TV show Friends in an epic fashion.
The 47-year-old artist recently released the music video for his song “Moonlight” from his latest album 4:44, and he based the video off the Friends, which delighted his fans everywhere.
Jay Z’s homage to the hit TV show broke the internet once the video was released. The cast for “Moonlight” included amazing actors: Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish, and Jerrod Carmichael for a spot-on remake of the show with an entirely black cast playing beloved characters.
The film’s director, Alan Yang, tweeted out a snippet of the opening sequence, and they really did an excellent job! From the couch to the outfits and the fountain, it’s a near identical replica of the original Friends opening. Naturally, the video quickly spread across the Internet, racking up tens of thousands of shares and views.
The music video for “Moonlight” is approximately six minutes long and it’s exclusively available on Tidal. However, Yang’s tweet suggest that the film will be available to the public soon.
