“Beauty and the Beast” became the highest-grossing musical ever in the UK
The previous record holder, “Mamma Mia”, was dethroned by Disney’s live-action remake of the classic 1991 animation “Beauty and the Beast”.
Its opening weekend, the movie broke five box office records, according to the Independent, among these being: the highest domestic and international opening of all time for a PG film, the seventh biggest overall and the biggest debut for a film that is female-led.
It is also the biggest opening since last year’s “Captain America: Civil War“, which debuted at $179.91 million. Furthermore, it beat “Alice in Wonderland” as the highest debuting of Disney‘s live-action remakes.

With a £1.3 million on its sixth weekend, according to ScreenDaily, “Beauty and the Beast” is now the highest-grossing musical of all time in the UK. The total gross of the movie amounts to £68.8 in the UK, making it eighth highest-grossing film of all times.
