7,500-mile journey: first train from UK to China completes its maiden voyage – VIDEO
The first rail freight service to connect the UK with China has completed its 7,500-mile journey, standard.co.uk reports.
The train arrived in the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu on Saturday and was carrying 30 containers filled with British produced goods, such as pharmaceuticals, baby products and vitamins.
At the arrival in Yiwu West station the train was greeted by traders and officials from the shipping company.
“This freight train is a reflection of the achievements of trade,” said Yiwu Timex Chairman Timmy Feng.
The service is part of China’s One Belt, One Road programme of reviving the ancient Silk Road trading routes with the West, and it passed through seven countries before reaching Yiwu – France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.
