A message to the criticisers of Millennial worklives

Millennials are growing more and more independent from the trap of the capitalistic society that came before them and their elders do not like it. We live in a different world now and people cannot grasp it and continue to cling to the past.

In recent years people have been finding new ways to secure a stable income. Millennials and soon generation Z set out on a revolution to make their living in the ways they want to. Social media marketing is probably the biggest of those possible jobs. This generation is the most culturally diverse, politically active and major issue concious and yet are still met with unprecedented criticism. But they are often met with judgement and/or bewildering confusion from their fellow people (mainly their elders). Why is that?

What do Millennials do?

Millennials have the biggest variety of possible jobs that any generation has ever had. Many chose to make their money from social media. Others make money from freelance writing. Others from making a blog. Many from making content for video sites such as YouTube. They’re not all in the creative world though. There are lots of other jobs such as investment or virtual personal assistants ETC. These jobs are what is giving this generation their living and their freedom to do what they want to do. Not the entirety of this generation is this way inclined though but it’s a massive leap in numbers compared to generations before.

Why are Millennials met with scepticism?

Truthfully, I do not know. I can only ponder and suggest possible reasons. In this world that’s changing faster than ever before the so called “ordinary jobs” that most of the world seems used to are now being cut back further and further. So much so that a record number of people are working zero hours contract jobs and a staggering amount of the working population in countries like the USA and the UK especially are experiencing pay cuts along with rising prices of everyday life. This is not fair.

It’s not only unfair, it’s a downright appalling way for corporations to treat it’s hard working staff and it’s utterly despicable for governments to treat their people that way. So this generation got it’s thinking cap on and worked out many ways to earn their living and working hard off of their own backs. Not working for “the man” as some may say.

With all of this mess that this generation has had to stave through to try and enter life without debt and with some kind of prospect, there is also another frightening trend that will eventually kill more and more jobs. That is artificial intelligence. AI is a massive leap forward in science and technology so much so that a lot of jobs are now being turned over to robotics. Warehouses are becoming more and more automatic instead of manual. Amazon is currently planning staff-less shops and Google is almost there with its driver-less cars.

So I ask you this, people of the world, would you have not done the same and found another way to make a living so that you along with generations before could have an actual healthy prospect in life? I think so.

I say to you – person who shall remain nameless that had the nerve to criticise me – if you think my career working from home as a freelance writer isn’t a real job then think again. Come back to see me in ten years time when my house will have been bought outright and I have a healthy savings account. Living life freer than ever before. See me then.

To borrow some words from the great musical artist Skip Marley: “We are the movement, this generation. You better know who we are.”

You better know who we are.
