Top 5 female superheroes (and possible Villains) who desperately need their own movies

Move over Wonder Woman, these ladies will surely destroy the box office too.

These days superhero movies break the box office. They are all highly anticipated and action-packed. Plus, they’re total woman warriors. Oh, and they’re also (nearly all) male dominated. You’ll see the occasional female heroine but she is almost always riding behind the tails of the male characters. Maybe this goes a bit deeper and is based on the male-dominated comic book world/past. Regardless, improvement has been made. Wonder Woman smashed into your local theater a few weeks ago but she had a minor role in Batman v Superman just the year before and there she proved you cannot have someone as impressive as her riding shotgun. Wonder Woman continues to inspire girls around the world but it’s time that we give other heroines like her some credit. After all, she isn’t the only female superhero and there are others other than the normal name drops that everyone knows out there too and they’re just as awesome. Below you’ll find a list of totally amazing heroines from DC and Marvel who not only hold their own on the battlefield, but would have pretty amazing back stories too.

1.    Terra (DC):

You might remember Terra from a little show called Teen Titans back when you were what? Eight? The show was on Cartoon Network and she also played Beast Boy’s love interest, you know, other than Raven. A little bio on Terra? Well for starters, her Co-creator George Pèrez was quoted saying:

“From the very start, [we knew] that this girl was going to be a traitor and that we were going to kill this character off.”

Maybe a little harsh but that about sums up Terra’s future in a nutshell. What makes her awesome though? She has the ability to control all earthen matter and before she crossed paths with the Titans, she was a hitwoman.

2.    Black Canary (DC)

Love interest of Gotham City detect Larry Lance, Black Canary a.k.a. Dinah Drake, was a hand-to-hand fighter without superpowers. Later on she was depicted as a top of the line martial artist who eventually gained a super power in the form of a high powered sonic scream called the “Canary Cry”. Dinah helps the Justice League a few times and even joins forces with a few other superheroines such as Huntress and Barbara Gordon (Catwoman-anyone?) Even with her one superpower, bringing Dinah to life would be epic especially if she could get a little help from all her hero friends. Her movie would certainly bring a ton of action and let’s face it, she would be a total action-star on the big screen.

3.    Topaz (Marvel)

Okay, Topaz is a little bit of a mystery even to herself but she’s a diverse heroine and who knows maybe a movie would be just what she needs to help flush out her past. She was found by a sorcerer named Taboo and bringing her back, the locals called her a witch because well, she was different and with good reason. Topaz could create flowers, move things with her mind and even make them disappear. Oh, and she can also control emotions. There is a lot there already and Topaz’s movie along with her gypsy-like appearance, would be pretty epic to see play out and even if she dies in the end, there’s hints she can be reincarnated. So, move over Doctor Strange .

4.    Starfire (DC)

Another Teen Titan veteran, Starfire is actually much older than the Titans and well, excluding Dick Grayson. Regardless, she is a princess of the fictional planet Tamaran and was on the right track to be its Queen. Starfire can harness solar energy which is the key to her powers and allows her to fly, gives her superhuman strength and durability. She and her sister Blackfire don’t quite get along and her and Raven go at it a few times too. Possible enemies? Maybe, but Starfire with her tan skin and fiery head of hair along with her signature purple color-scheme is sure to break bones and show Earth what Tamaran is all about.

5.    She-Venom (Marvel)

Everyone knows Venom but the female version of this famous fictional villain sounds even better. The first of many, Ann Weying was the ex-wife of Eddie Brock and also the first. Even though Ann ends up committing suicide in the comics, she maintains Venom’s signature desire for bloodshed and there is a lot that can be added to her character overall. She goes head to head with Spiderman a few times along with her ex and who knows, maybe her story can be changed and we can see a female Venom go head to head with Homecoming Spiderman.

All of there heroines could be good to see on the big screen and though this list should undoubtedly be longer, it’s at least a good place to start.
