One of her most acclaimed performances was for her leading role in Monster (2003). In this biographical film, Theron plays Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who notoriously becomes a serial killer. Theron would later receive another Academy Award nomination for North Country even though Reese Witherspoon won that year for playing June Carter in Walk the Line.
