Born on July 21, 1951, Robin Williams was an entertainer unlike any other. He brought humor, warmth, and humanity into the roles that he played. He also earned an Academy Award after being previously nominated three times before. Most people remember hum, though, as the Genie in the Disney classic Aladdin. He passed away on August 11, 2014 at the age of 63 by hanging himself. His suicide was a shock for many given the fact that he has had a remarkable career.
Robin Williams began to rise in Hollywood after receiving his first Golden Globe and nomination for his leading role on the TV series Mork & Mindy. Since then, he has won numerous awards and nominations for films ranging from Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) to the empowering film Dead Poets Society (1989), a film that encouraged audiences to “seize the day.” He finally won the Academy Award after the release of the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. This particular film might not have been as successful as James Cameron’s Titanic, but the legacy of Robin Williams will continue to endure as long as people enjoy his memorable performances.
