At age 77, the director who created the Living Dead movie franchise, George A Romero, has passed away.
Some might argue George A Romero pioneered the zombie film franchise with his wildly popular Living Dead series of films. The first film in the Living Dead series was Night of the Living Dead, a cult classic which saw release in 1968.
Many film fanatics and zombie enthusiasts often cite the 1968 Night of the Living Dead as the film which instigated the zombie genre. Marking one of the earliest uses of shambling corpses in film culture, George A Romero’s early seemed to have a profound effect on pop culture as zombies began to emerge from all corners of the medium.
