After reports of SoundCloud being shut down in the near future, it seems Chance the Rapper saved the day….or did he?
Chance the Rapper, a native of Chicago, posted several tweets yesterday in regards to SoundCloud and reports the streaming service music website only had enough funds to last another fifty days. Music fans and artists alike have been stirred up on social media, wondering if Soundcloud would truly shut down.
According to TechCrunch, which reported about SoundCloud on Wednesday July 12th, the executives for the company informed staffers there was only enough money to last through Q4, and Q4 (Quarter 4) begins in 50 days. The company also laid off 40% of its employees recently.

Chance spoke to his supporters in an assertive manner, stating he was “working on the Soundcloud thing”. Later he tweeted, “Just had a very fruitful call with Alex Ljung. @Soundcloud is here to stay.” Chance the Rapper, 24, also asked fans to tag music they found on SoundCloud over the years. “@ an artist who you wouldn’t know if not for Soundcloud.” He added, “Now link me to a song on @Soundcloud that you swear you’re responsible for like atleast a thousand lays.”
A rep for Soundcloud told Variety the three-time Grammy winner was “essentially spreading good vibes about the company during a challenging time” before admitting she wasn’t aware if the BET Humanitarian Award winner was “making a more material commitment to the service.”
SoundCloud‘s website features a blog post with Ljung assuring fans these rumors are just “noise,” and, “The music you love on SoundCloud isn’t going away, the music you shared or uploaded isn’t going away, because SoundCloud is not going away. Not in 50 days, not in 80 days or anytime in foreseeable future. Your music is safe.”
