Spider-Man: Homecoming tops at Box Office and surpasses expectations
Although this summer wasn’t too successful for some Hollywood franchises – like Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Transformers 5 and Despicable me 3 – Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as other superhero flicks, managed to buck the trend.
Spider-Man: Homecoming gained $117 million on its debut weekend, making $140 million worldwide. Analysts initially estimated the movie to make $100 million, but a strong showing from a younger audience surpassed those predictions, according to the Independent.
“This is a triumphant return of Spider-Man, it’s one of the best-reviewed superhero movies of all-time and an incredible win for Sony and Marvel,” Sony’s president of worldwide marketing and distribution Josh Greenstein told Deadline.
Other superhero flick that managed to do well were Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($385.5 million) in the US and Canada and Wonder woman, that outgrossed both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.
