Are the Milan Clubs on their way back?
After a summer of signings so far, nothing seems to be slowing down as the pair from Milan look to bounce back to their former glories!
And where to start? We could look at the Rossoneri who have been throwing cash around like confetti frankly. Signing no less than seven players thus far, including Andre Silva, Ricardo Rodriguez and Mateo Mussachio, the club just doesn’t look like slowing down their spending.
Then you have neighbours Inter Milan. A lot of talk has been done rather than spending compared to AC Milan, with Alexis Sanchez hoping to be their ‘poster boy’ I seemed to have read this pre-season. But the talking should be turning into walking in the very near future, with Luciano Spaletti hoping to seal some deals very very soon. However, compared to the Rossoneri, again, Inter are more losing players rather than gaining. Not all has been done and dusted but with Ivan Perisic linked with Manchester United recently after his spell performing for Croatia in Beach Volleyball, he looks certain to move away, with Spaletti wanting clarification of what the Croat is hoping to do.

Back to AC Milan, with those signings, they are still continuing to hopefully add with the possible acquisition of Aubameyang returning to the club in a huge €70 million plus deal. With Chinese owners coming into football, these businessmen mean, well, business, striving to become successful in the football business world, which is expanding by the day (before the bubble bursts). But in Series A, with the exception of Juventus, there is a hell of a lot of ground to make up. Let’s look at some sort of comparison. Paris Saint-Germain
But in Series A, with the exception of Juventus, there is a hell of a lot of ground to make up. Let’s look at some sort of comparison. Paris Saint-Germain are spending huge money. Have dominated Ligue 1 (until last season) and yet haven’t progressed on the European stage. To push that real stellar signing over the edge is difficult as France isn’t competitive enough at home or abroad.
Take that into Italy. Juventus have dominated for half a decade and can sign decent players, especially within the league, and have performed on the Champions League stage, but to be on a par with them or to overtake will be tough. Roma have tried throughout this entire time and Napoli can’t seem to overtake the champions from Turin. Who says Inter or AC will do the same? In the short term…maybe not, but, in time they could compete again. They are both huge clubs in Italy and in world football. You can’t forget that this millennium they have won 3 Champions Leagues, and should’ve been four if it wasn’t for Liverpool. Granted, Inter did win a few Serie A’s because Juventus were rebuilding due to Calciopoli, but they still took advantage and won a Treble!

Internazionale will be looking to complete the signing of Borja Valero very soon which will aid in their progress, but they need to be more ambitious IF the money is available. Spaletti has always seemed to be the nearly man, apart from his time in Russia, and with the Bianchoneri he could just take that extra step with funding, as he is a good manager in Serie A. Both teams were mediocre last season, as they have been for a while frankly, with AC Milan finishing in a Europa League spot. With these signings, they could mount a challenge in Europe and progress in the league. Inter could take advantage of themselves not being in Europe and hopefully climb the table. We could’ve said this last season as they weren’t in Europe but with investment, this term could be a whole lot different.
I’m not saying either will win the league, but with the right management, signings, rotation and commitment, who knows what could happen next season in Italy? One thing’s for sure, the Guiseppe Meazza will hopefully get to see better times ahead rather than the drivel in recent years!
