Today, the 14th CONCACAF Gold Cup begins with the first of many doubleheaders to decide which country will potentially represent the confederation in the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup. Here is everything you need to know about this year’s Gold Cup.
The Gold Cup may not be one of the great regional soccer tournaments like the Copa America but it is very exciting to watch. It features the United States, Mexico, and Canada taking on the best teams from both Central America and the Caribbean. The three countries are also the only ones to have won the Cup, with Mexico having won seven times, the United States five times, and Canada once.
The competition has been played nearly every two years and mostly hosted by the United States, with three exceptions where they co-hosted with either Canada or Mexico. For soccer fans in the United States, it gives them the opportunity to watch international soccer matches such as Panama/Nicaragua and Mexico/Jamaica outside of either the World Cup or Olympics.

The countries that will be competing this year are defending 2015 champions Mexico, host country United States, Canada, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Jamaica, French Guiana, Martinique, and Nicaragua.
The Cup will be played in a variety of football and soccer-specific stadiums, such as Qualcomm Stadium, the Rose Bowl, and the University of Phoenix Stadium. The group stage runs from today to the 16th, the knockout stage will run from the 19th to the 23rd, and the Final will be played on the 26th at Levi’s Stadium.
The Gold Cup starts today with French Guiana taking on Canada and Honduras taking on Costa Rica in a doubleheader at the Red Bull Arena. Check your local listings to find out which broadcaster will be airing the Gold Cup in your region.
