Ryan Gosling rumoured to play iconic role in Willy Wonka remake
According to reports, Warner Bros. are discussing the possibility to have a Willy Wonka remake with sequels, according to the Independent. Ryan Gosling is rumoured to play the iconic role of Willy Wonka in the reboot.
The studios are looking for a charismatic actor to lead the series the same way Robert Downey Jr. managed to with Iron Man. It is rumoured that Ryan Gosling is being considered for the role. After having won an Oscar for La La Land, Gosling has become a hugely sought-after actor. He seems to be the ideal choice, considering his singing and dancing abilities.
Roald Dahl’s famous character Willy Wonka has been previously played by actors Gene Wilder in the 1971 musical “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2005 adaptation “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
The adaptation will be a prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and a ‘standalone movie focused on Wonka and his early adventures’. Charlie Bucket will probably not appear in the movie, but might make an appearance in future sequels.
The producer will be David Heyman, the man who famously secured Warner Bros. the rights to the Harry Potter series in 1999. A director has not been announced yet.
