Why Should Romelu Lukaku go to United?
News has broken that a fee of £75 million has been agreed with Everton for the big Belgian.
And why wouldn’t he move? Manchester United are possibly the biggest clubs in the world. Certainly progressing nicely under Jose Mourinho. Likely to win more than he would at Everton and will not only earn more money (I suspect) but will also, surely be the number 1 striker at the club and probably in the league.
The deal would not only benefit the player, but most definitely his agent who has brokered the Pogba and Ibrahimovic deals last summer, earning him a fair amount in the process. However, he did publicly announce that Lukaku was 99.999…% staying at Goodison Park a few months ago.
See, the problem I have is that Romelu Lukaku wasn’t fancied at Chelsea by the Portuguese and eventually was sold to Everton. Maybe it’s worked out because, well, could you see Chelsea doing business with Mourinho or Manchester United? Probably not. But for the striker, unless Jose has changed, why would you feel he has confidence in you, and vice versa?
With the £75 million price tag maybe that may justify some faith, but with United desperate to win more, the other question is will Lukaku step up and have the confidence to handle the pressure of such a big club, yearning to fight for the league and Champions League? I’m certain United fans will be ecstatic with the signing, plus, they’ve finally bought somebody, if the deal does go ahead after the figure has been agreed. Only time will tell if it’ll be a success, and nothing is saying that it shouldn’t be, but will the relationship between the two be a match made in heaven or a disaster?
