The Los Vegas Knights picked up Marc-Andre Fleury from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL expansion draft. The veteran goaltender appears to be optimistic about his future.
Some have been predicting it the entire season: Marc-Andrew Fleury, also known as “Flower,” has been acquired by the newest NHL team the Los Vegas Knights during the NHL expansion draft. It became more evident when the 32-year old veteran goaltender was benched and only played in two games during the Pittsburgh Penguins playoff run. After the team’s Stanley Cup win it became even more likely when it was announced Fleury had waved his no-trade clause in his contract. Before it was announced, it became certain when reports surfaced Fleury had made his way out to Vegas for the expansion draft ceremony.
Fleury was with the Pittsburgh Penguins for 14 years.

As Los Vegas Knights Twitter page put it, “When you build a team from scratch, you start from the net out. We also decided to start with a Stanley Cup champion. #VegasDraft”
When speaking of joining the team Fleury said, “I’m kind of happy it’s this way, being with a team for so long, coming over with a fresh start, for myself and everybody on the team, I won’t have the big job. My job is just to stop the puck. Other people have to worry about everything else that goes on with an NHL hockey team.”
Pittsburgh Penguin captain Sidney Crosby spoke on losing Fleury. “I know that he’s going to do great things here,” Crosby said. “Just a great guy, so important to our team over the years. It’s tough to see him leave.”
Fleury appears to be optimistic about his future.
“I’ll give it everything I have to win some games,” Fleury said. “I’ll try to get into the community, meet people and spread the word about our team.”
