The best and the worst of Confederations Cup: Day 2

‘Mexico vs. Portugal’ and ‘Chile vs. Cameroon’ were exceptional matches with key moments to remember.

Mexico and Portugal had a hard fought match; from beginning to end. Portugal got on the score board first thanks to a goal by Quaresma. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez equalized shortly. Portugal regained the lead with a Cédric Soaras goal.

Best: Hector Moreno scores last minute goal

At the 91st minute mark, Mexico earned the decisive corner kick. Moreno managed to out jump the Portuguese defense to nail a perfect header for the goal. Thanks to Moreno, Mexico was able to steal a point from Portugal.

Worst: Ronaldo did not score

When you see Ronaldo out on the field, you expect him to score. Today that wasn’t the case. The Mexican defense did their best to stop him. Yes; CR7 was the most productive player on his team. The fact that he didn’t score makes you question his consistency with the national team.

Best: Chile topped Cameroon

‘Cameroon vs. Chile’ was a combination of exciting and frustrating. The likes of Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas were the ultimate predators out there. Despite the fact that “Rey Arturo” didn’t score until the 81st minute, he proves to be one of the most dangerous men once he has possession. Next to Vidal is Vargas. He is equally a danger if he is the one that has the ball. He proved that when he picked his spot to score the 2nd goal of the match.

Worst: Referees vs. Goal-line technology

The thing that many of us have been craving for years has finally been implemented in a major tournament. In both matches, the goal-line technology was key to making both matches fair. The only ones that didn’t have a great time adjusting to this were referees. The delays were too long and it’s understandable. You can see it in the refs’ faces, they are still skeptical of using technology that clearly won’t have any bias against any team.
