First ever women’s MITB ladder match can be a shower stealer
Remember when the women’s division was called the ‘Divas Division’? Of course, you don’t; because you don’t want to. Over the past year, we have come to recognise the women of WWE as superstars, just like their male counterparts; especially with the first women’s MITB.
The ‘Money in the Bank’ ladder match is WWE’s last greatest match concept created. Ever since its inception, most of the winners have benefited greatly, to the point in which it was the launchpad to success in WWE.
CM Punk, Edge, and the Miz are prime examples as to what winning the MITB ladder match can do for a superstar’s career.
Edge won the inaugural MITB ladder match (Wrestlemania XXI); having outlasted the likes of Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian, Kane, and Shelton Benjamin. Edge disposing of Benoit in relentless fashion was a foreshadowing of what he was going accomplish following this huge victory. His cash-in on John Cena (following a brutal Elimination Chamber match) cemented his status as a top heel for the remainder of his career.
In 2008 and 2009, CM Punk won back-to-back MITB matches (at Wrestlemania XXIV and XXV). For Punk, climbing the ladder and retrieving the case was a literal interpretation of how his career was going to play out; even more after his 2nd cash-in. Punk’s 2nd cash-in was on Jeff Hardy. Just like Edge, it was key to having a successful heel run.
In first ‘Money in the Bank’ (2010) PPV, Miz won the Raw exclusive MITB match. His surprise cash on a weaken Randy Orton was what elevated him to stardom all the way to Wrestlemania XXVII. The effects of that accomplishment are still felt today; easily making him the greatest beneficiary out of all the MITB winners.
The female superstars have to pull off an instant classic. It’s their obligation to steal the show.
The fact of the matter is that this generation of female wrestlers are paving the way to success that previous generations were unable to achieve. We know that Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Natalya, Tamina, and Carmella already are great. But great isn’t going to continue bringing success in this generation. These superstars are the ideal contenders for this match. Flair and Lynch are the most agile competitors in this match. They will provide the key spots. Natalya and Tamina bring in the strength factor.
So, that brings them on par with Flair and Lynch. Finally, we have Carmella. She is the x-factor in the match and also a very likely winner. Overall, the balance of power is there, so we won’t see a one-sided work rate.
For the sake of their division, the female superstars have to dig deep inside to innovate women’s wrestling in WWE. Our hopes are high for this match.
