Maci Bookout speaks out on Ryan’s substance abuse
On the most recent episode of “Teen Mom OG,” Maci Bookout while on a getaway to Puerto Rico for co-star Catelynn’s birthday, spilled the tea about her ex and son’s father, Ryan’s substance abuse.
During a meditative moment on the vacation, the three stars had a heart-to-heart about Maci’s ex Ryan Edwards. Maci confesses to Amber and Catelynn, “I don’t think Ryan and I would have ended up together no matter what, even if we didn’t get pregnant.”
When Catelynn asked how Ryan is doing Maci said, “Okay.” Then Amber being the more blunt one said, “He’s fu**ed up. I watch it, I see it, and I know it.” If anyone on this show could detect someone being on some sort of drugs, it is Amber, she has had her own issues with substance abuse. Maci then shook her head in agreement.
Amber then added, “Where he’s at right now, when I see him, I know where he’s at and I’m like, ‘Wow, he needs some guidance.” I couldn’t agree more, anyone that is an avid watcher of this show would know very well that Ryan is on something.
When the idea of getting help came up, Maci said, “Ryan would do it. It’s everyone else around him that’s too afraid to admit it.” Maci also revealed that people around Ryan would be afraid of what going to therapy would “look like.” Maci said, “What I’m saying is that everyone else around him is too afraid of what it will look like more than his health.”
The most heartbreaking part of this whole conversation is when Maci said, “Honestly, the hardest thing is for me to see Ryan not love himself because he is a person worth loving. He deserves to love himself.” This is really sad to hear, it must be difficult knowing that the father of your child is going through something so serious that can potentially take their life.
Maci even broke into tears, while saying “I’m just sick of cleaning up his mess. I talk to Taylor about it like; I wonder if today is going to be the day that Ryan does something that he can’t come back from?” I’m pretty sure that many viewers across the country shed a tear or two when they heard that.
Overall, I’m very glad that Maci has her co-stars to confide in, but let’s be realistic here, after watching this episode we have all learned one thing for sure, Ryan needs some sort of rehab before it’s too late. Imagine how devastated Jen and Larry would be if Ryan lost the fight to addiction? More importantly, no child needs to lose their father.
If you know someone that is struggling with addiction, please get them some help.
