Comedy Central picks up Scrubs after Netflix drops it
From 2001-2010, Scrubs, created by Bill Lawrence, was on the air on both NBC and ABC. The series tells the story of J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff) and his adventures at Sacred Heart Hospital with a wide array of characters such as his best friend Christopher Turk (Donald Faison), his love interest Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), nurse and Turk’s wife Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), cynical Perry Cox (John C. McGinley), insensitive chief of medicine Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins), and strange and revenge-seeking Janitor (Neil Flynn). Since airing on NBC, Scrubs was an instant success and masterfully combines comedy and tragedy with eccentric fantasies patient/doctor relationships and more.
Netflix has allowed fans to revisit–or join–the staff of Sacred Heart Hospital, but as of May 1st, Netflix did not renew the show and it has since been unable to watch on stream. After seeing how disappointed fans were, Braff jumped into the fray, telling fans on Twitter that he was trying to get Netflix to renew Scrubs once more. Despite the fans’ and Braff’s efforts, Netflix has not renewed the series.
However, according to Braff, Comedy Central has brought the show to back to television. Starting with a marathon on Memorial Day of the best episodes–including “My First Day” and “My Finale parts 1 and 2”–Scrubs will now be available to watch every weekday from 1-3PM. Though the series is currently on Hulu, Comedy Central picking up is wonderful for those who do not have the streaming service.
Thanks to the fans’ dedication to a series that has been finished for almost a decade, they have allowed themselves the opportunity to relive the best moments at Sacred Heart Hospital, and they have allowed others to discover a great and influential show filled with hilarious jokes, heart-wrenching episodes, and of course, memorable characters.
