Robert De Niro now considers the US “a tragic dumb comedy”
American actor Robert de Niro called the US “a tragic dumb comedy” during his commencement speech at Brown University this Sunday.
The 73-year-old actor, who received an honorary doctorate of fine arts, spoke to Brown University graduates Sunday at the Ivy League school’s commencement ceremonies and he asked students to “work to stop the insanity” and try and make the world a better place.
Moreover, he warned graduates that in movie terms,” America was once “an inspiring uplifting drama”, but in the meantime has turned into a “a tragic dumb–s comedy.”

This is not the first time that De Niro has openly criticized American president Donald Trump. In October, he stated in a video that “[Trump is] a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bulls— artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
