„Buddymoons” is the newest trend when it comes to honeymoons and recent surveys show that it is becoming increasingly popular.
Couples choose to expand their wedding festivities by inviting their friends to come along in their honeymoon, creating a phenomenon dubbed as the ”buddymoon”, with recent surveys showing that one in five couples have already shared their honeymoon with somebody else than their spouse.
Condé Nast Traveler suggests that the trend might be influenced by celebrities. For example, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux invited Chelsea Handler, Jason Bateman, and Courteney Cox along for their honeymoon in Bora Bora in 2015. “We had thought about it; we could just do a normal honeymoon or we could go with friends, keep the party going, relax, and have fun,” Theroux declared back then.

The same travel website adds that since more and couples live together before actually being married, this macaques the honeymoon be less of a special occasion. “For them, I think having friends come along is less of a big deal. And in some ways makes it more of a special and exceptional occasion,” W. Bradford Wilcox, sociologist and director of the National Marriage Project, declared.
The fact that weddings are gradually becoming more relaxed is also being taken into consideration as a cause. “As people tend to get married later in life, weddings have become a lot less traditional. Couples are planning more destination weddings than ever, so they’re tacking on a trip with their friends at the end of it to extend the celebration,” Lia Batkin, co-founder of planning company In The Know Experiences concluded.
