Coachella for the rich turns out to be complete nightmare
The first day of Fyre Festival, a luxurious festival that was marketed as an exotic alternative to Coachella, turned out to be a complete failure after top Instagram influencers complained of violent locals, appalling accommodation and even being robbed.
Fyre Festival is the product of tech entrepreneur Billy McFarland and Noughties rapper Ja Rule. Designed as an exotic alternative to Coachella and marketed as “a cultural moment created from a blend of music, art, and food,” it took place on an island in the Bahamas and was heavily promoted by Instagram influencers, such as supermodels Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski.
The performance headliners included Blink 182, Skepta, Major Lazer, Disclosure and members of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music hip-hop troupe, with tickets costing up to $12,000 at the VIP section.

Nevertheless, the festival turned out to be a nightmare for those that reached the island of Exuma. The visitors experienced total disorganisation and chaos, complaining on social media about poor accommodation, feral dogs, lack of the ”gourmet food” they were promised and even being victims of robbery, with one woman having her belongings stolen minutes after she erected her tent.
Other visitors complained about the fact that the locals were extremely violent towards them.

According to one festival-goer, organisers on the island encouraged people to sign in order to get a full refund of their tickets, yet the official website stated that “All sales are final. There are no refunds.”
The government of Bahamas issued a statement in which it apologizes for the situation, with the festival’s Instagram account claiming they are working to “accommodate guests and deliver a great experience”, and have directed festival-goers to an apparent safe zone.
