Daimler admits it might be fined in the US for diesel engines, just like Volkswagen
German giant Daimler, the largest luxury car producer in the world, announced on Wednesday that the investigations started by US authorities regarding the emissions generated by its diesel engines can lead to substantial fines.
The Department of Justice, the US Environmental Protection Agency and several American states are investigating the emissions of Mercedes-Benz cars, joined by the prosecutor in Stuttgart, Germany.
The latter started an investigation last month against several Daimler employees, under the suspicion of fraud and false advertising.

The group warned that the investigations might lead to significant ”fines”, the recall of a number of vehicles, trials or compensations.
EPA accused the Fiat Chrysler group in January of illegally using software that made the emissions skip detection.
Volkswagen has paid over $20bn in the US after admitting in September 2015 that it installed software that would cheat on gas emissions tests.
The software was installed on 11 million vehicles sold worldwide, of which 500,00 were sold in the US. Nevertheless, the group received the biggest fines in the US and promised compensations to consumers.
Volkswagen didn’t pay any fines in the European Union.
