This is how your letter of application should look in 2017
Often, when someone is applying for a job, they also need to accompany their résumé with a letter of application. Not many candidates know what it should look like, though, so they make mistakes that reduce their chances of success.
If you’re looking for a new job, you should take enough time to prepare the necessary documents. When it comes to drafting a letter of application, follow these simple tips.
Personalize it
Try to adapt the content of the letter according to the job you’re applying for. A formulation that is too general will not make your letter stand out to whoever reads it and will also lack information about you.
Tell a story
Don’t just list your successes, but try and summarize your career and include every important step that you made. Write about the important people that you worked with and the projects you were involved in, and always emphasize the role you had in reaching various goals.
Keep in mind the organizational culture
Talking in your letter of application about your knowledge and experience is not enough. Add a few phrases to describe why you would perfectly fit in the organizational culture of the company you wish to get hired at.
End it with a question
The purpose of the letter of application is to persuade the person reading it to make the next step in the recruitment process. According to specialists, a “push” in this direction would be asking at the end of the document a question like, “So, can we meet soon in order to discuss…?”
