Ugo Ehiogu dies aged 44 after cardiac arrest during training

Ugo Ehiogu, former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender  has died at the age of 44 after collapsing at Tottenham’s training centre on Thursday.

The ex-England international was coaching Spurs’ Under-23 side. Before being taken to hospital by ambulance he was given medical treatment on site at the training ground, Metro reports.

“It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing Ugo Ehiogu, our U23 coach,” Spurs announced in an official statement on Friday morning.

“Ugo received immediate treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest at the training centre yesterday before being transferred to hospital, where he passed away in the early hours of this morning.”

Ehiogu is known for making over 200 appearances at Villa before spending seven seasons at the Riverside Stadium with Boro. He also turned out for West Brom, Leeds United, Rangers and Sheffield United over the course of an esteemed career.
