With over 7 billion people in the world and 3.2 billion people using the internet, according to the International Telecommunication Union, it would seem that with those numbers and taking into account the law of averages, you can bank yourself to find a date online for this weekend or a partner for the rest of your life. Here are the apps that give you more chance to be successful with online dating in order to get the best out of online dating.

The roots of social media date back further than you may think, starting from 550BC, with the earliest form of postal service, when messengers used to use written correspondence and get it delivered by hand from one person to another, in other words sending letters, as we still do till this day.

In the later part of the 17th century, the telegraph was invented. This technology, although limited in its wording, was able to deliver messages faster, quicker and to a wider distance range in comparison to horse riders e.g. News and Urgent messages.

Almost a century later, in the later stages of the 18th century, entering the 19th, two major discoveries and inventions where made e.g. Telephone and Radio. The telephone lines and radio signals, although primitive in comparison to our smartphones, were the first of their kind and allowed people to communicate across a great distance instantaneously, something the world had never witnessed before.

Now we enter the 20th century, in the age of fast pace technology, from computers to laptops, from flip phones to I-Phones, from Msn Messenger to Whatsapp, emails, instant messaging, using your phone to create content, instant photo sharing, video recording, gaming entertainment, and the list goes on. The rise of social media platforms such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube took its place in this playground of information sharing and communication and now people are also using this to find a partner so they can start a relationship with.

According to Pew Research Center on Internet and Technology, 61% of men are more likely to use the internet, in comparison to 57% of women. However, unmarried men and women are close in percentage of internet usage per day. Men are more likely to use the internet for recreational activities, where as women are more likely to use the internet for communication and for the betterment of their relationships.

With dating online becoming more than just a fad, people who may not have the time to be so outgoing or feel shy to meet individuals face to face have taken to engaging in the use of mobile phone applications such as Happen or the most popular one, with 7 million active users, Tinder, to find potential partners they could engage in relations with.

A survey conducted by Survey Monkey to find out what the percentage of genders used the Tinder App revealed a 50/50 usage from both sides. This means that Tinder currently has 3.5 million active users on both sides of genders actively using the app to find a date online.

Another popular dating site that is currently been used is called Match Dot Com, with a staggering 2 million online active users. Statistic from the same source as shown above show that 60% of the users are females and 40% of them are male users. Although it may seem to male service users that there’s a higher probability that you may find a date on Match Dot Com compared to Tinder, you still have to do the math, between 50% of 7 million versus 60% of 2 million.

Bumble is another dating application for your mobile, but with a twist to its rules. On Bumble, to make sure women avoid the type of guy they do not want to receive messages, from a rule has been implemented that only women can message a man to start a conversation. This has women leading the use of this App with 59% and 41% been male users. This app also has a community of LGBT users who have to message someone at least once in 24 hours or their connection will expire.

Everyday, new applications and websites are been created to bring people together, from sexual orientation, religious belief, social status, plus many other niches that individual would prefer to explore as they feel they are more likely to find like-minded people.

The pros of online dating or starting a conversation with someone online, which could lead to you both meeting up, is the simple fact that it is online, which means that if an individual decides not to respond to your message then as the stats show you in-regards to the percentage of women per men service users on dating apps have a multitude amount of options to go with. One could also say that, because the stats show that men are more likely to use the internet for entertainment purposes than women, where as women use the internet a lot more for communication purposes, and that women are more likely to be extroverts, as they are theirs a higher chance of them been better communicator than men.

The cons of online dating could be as simple as people could fabricate the truth about their profile portfolio. Although it’s widely accepted to now meet someone that you have been speaking to via these apps, it is still dangerous to arrange a meet up as this individual could appear to be someone else. This type of occurrences has spawn shows to life such as Catfish. The premise of this show is that the host speaks to an individual who has been communicating and built a relationship online with another person, but have never met face to face. The host’s job is to arrange a meet up to make sure that the individual that has been communicating with the individual the host is representing is real and too often these people are not.

Online dating via social media is now seen as a norm and will continue to do so as social media has been integrated in our everyday lives e.g. giving individuals the power to share their life, opinions on current events, and memories they are currently making. So, if you are looking for a date this weekend with someone you admire, then you could be just one message away from a new chapter in your life waiting to begin.
