Three games in and Spurs’ season is already looking like a rocky road that’s going to be hard to navigate. Armed with title ambitions they certainly wanted to put the Wembley curse to bed. Alas, it was not to be.
As if it was all much ado about nothing, good ole Poch thought he’d do his bit to shift unwanted attention and pressure off his nervous players ahead of their first home game of the 2017/18 season at the dreaded Wembley Stadium. If he thought it was going to be that easy to calm his players with a statement which was more aimed at his players than any…….hoodoo, he was sorely mistaken by game-end.
What Poch failed to realize was that by placing the focus on his players he was setting them up to take the blame for any loss that can easily occur in the English Premier league; and, by all accounts, this draw felt like a loss. If Poch could’ve willed his bad-luck bunch over the finish line he would’ve, for he was well aware of the importance of getting that ever-so-elusive win at Wembley, their adopted home, in the bag.

We all know how comfortable we feel at home, dice it up whichever way you like, it’s just the way it is; so if Spurs are to mount an assault on the title this season, their home form is crucial to their bid. Trouble is that Wembley is just not their home. Try as you may, you cannot replicate that ‘home’ vibe away from your ‘home’, this is the problem facing luckless Spurs.
Spurs by rights should’ve been (pardon the pun) home and dry with the amount of chances that fell their way. Kane equally concerned with his own personal can’t-score-in-August hoodoo, struck the post and had enough chances to kick-start his own campaign but failed along with the team to exorcise their collective demons. The game itself saw Burnley put up dogged resistance to Spurs’ attacks and managed to shut them out in the first half. The deadlock was broken four minutes into the second period when Deli Alli pounced to net his second goal of the new season.
The England international was first to react after Ben Mee failed to clear from a corner, netting after the second attempt. But Spurs are not the most assured when only a goal up and their achilles heel was once again exposed when a lapse in concentration saw Chris Wood slot home a through ball from Robbie Brady to earn Burnley a creditable draw.
