Despite its culture and heritage, Pakistan is also known for it’s food. There are plenty, but here are 10 you cannot miss!

The best way of exploring a country is by it’s food; and Pakistan has much to offer. Pakistani cuisine is full of diversity. It is a marvelous blend of Indian Far Eastern and Middle Eastern techniques. Pakistan has a wide range of dishes to offer; both savor and sweet. However, here are 10 you CANNOT miss!

1. Biryani and Pulao:

Biryani is a rice dish, that is a must have when we talk about Pakistani cuisine. There are many types of Biryani; however most commonly it is found with chicken. You can also have mutton biryani, tikka (barbecued meat) biryani or aalo (potato) biryani.

Pulao is also a rice dish; which is made with different types of meat: beef, mutton and chicken. Most famous of all is beef pulao.

2. Barrah Kebab:

Barrah kebab is a barbecue dish made from mutton chops. The chops are marinated in a mix of spices and yogurt and barbequed for a couple of minutes.

3. Chanaa Pindi:

This dish is made from chickpeas and is mostly used for breakfast in Punjab province of Pakistan. The boiled chickpeas are stir fried in onions, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, and coriander with spices. It is served with naan, roti or rice.

4. Nihari:

Nihari is a lamb dish that is made in the stock of baby lamb bones. It is a dish for breakfasts, traditionally. Yet, it can also be served for lunch or dinner. It is served with naan.

5. Daal:

Daal is a lentil stew, which is commonly served with boiled rice. It is also served with meat and vegetables.

6. Gulab Jamun:

Gulab Jamun is a sweet that is made from freshly curdled milk. They are milk solids made from milk which is heated until the most of the water is evaporated. Then, the evaporated milk is kneaded into dough and then fried. Then, they are dipped in a sugary sauce and served warm.

7. Jalebi:

Jalebi is a popular sweet that is made from all purpose flour, The mixture of the flour is deep fried in swirls and then dipped in the sugary sauce and served warm.

8. Kheer:

Kheer is a rice pudding, which is served as a sweet dish or used for breakfast in most regions of Pakistan.

9. Sheer Khurma:

Sheer Khurma is a vermicelli creamy pudding which is usually served on eids.

10. Sohan Halwa:

Sohan Halwa is a traditional confection made from milk, sugar cornflour and water.
