Love Endures: Diogo Jota’s Wife’s Profound Message of Resilience

Tragically, Diogo died in a car crash in Spain on Thursday morning, alongside his brother Andre. Pedro Proenca, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, honored Jota’s memory, describing him as “much more than an amazing player” with nearly 50 international appearances, but “an extraordinary person with infectious joy.”

In a poignant tribute, Diogo Jota’s wife Rute Cardoso reflected on their profound love story, declaring:

“We said it would be until death tore us apart. Today, I say not even death can do that.”

In a heartfelt message from 2019, she recounted their journey:

“Seven years ago, two teenagers aged 15 and 16 began their story. Two classmates who never imagined what the future held. Who would have thought we would live in three different countries, visit ten more, and remain the same passionate couple? We’ve experienced highs and lows but continue supporting each other, hand in hand.”

She added movingly:

“We grew up together and will grow old together. Seven years ago, we committed to each other until death. Today, that commitment remains unbroken.”

 

Childhood sweethearts who recently married, Rute and Diogo’s relationship symbolized enduring love. In a recent interview about fatherhood, Diogo shared a tender moment:

“When the baby was first placed in my arms, the feeling was indescribable. I was too sensitive to cut the cord.”

He humorously advised new fathers:

“Patience is key. And maybe ask Joe for more experienced advice.”
