Christian Von Koenigsegg Proves Passion for Compact Performance Cars
Despite leading a company renowned for creating extraordinary supercars, Koenigsegg’s founder has a surprising daily driver: a Toyota hatchback.
Christian Von Koenigsegg, responsible for some of the world’s most impressive performance vehicles, chooses a humble Toyota GR Yaris for his daily commute. In an Instagram post, he showcased his love for small, spirited cars.
“Nothing like a little 3-cylinder madness for the morning commute!” he captioned, driving the lightweight hatchback to Koenigsegg’s Swedish headquarters.
The 2024 GR Yaris model boasts impressive specifications, with 280hp and 288lbs-ft of torquea significant upgrade from previous versions. While modest compared to Koenigsegg’s hypercars, the hatchback represents pure driving enjoyment.

This isn’t Koenigsegg’s first affair with compact performance cars. He previously owned a 2021 GR Yaris Circuit Pack, selling it for 38,000 in 2022. His automotive passion extends to other small sports cars like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, famously stating he’d use his last tank of gasoline in this iconic roadster.
Koenigsegg isn’t alone among supercar CEOs with modest tastes. Bugatti and Rimac’s Mate Rimac similarly enjoys a BMW M5 E39, demonstrating that true automotive enthusiasm transcends price tags.
Founded in 1994 with the CC prototype, Koenigsegg has become a respected performance car manufacturer. Their latest models, including the Gemera and Chimera, continue to push technological boundaries.
Christian Von Koenigsegg’s choice of daily transport reminds us that automotive passion isn’t about horsepower alone, but the pure joy of driving.
