Amin, the taxi driver, was heading down Fifth Avenue near East 49th Street when he struck another cab–causing a chain reaction crash.

According to the police, at around 2:15 p.m., a yellow cab overturned in Midtown on Wednesday. The driver struck a fellow cab, hit a lamppost and fence and flipped over. Photos show the cab overturned with glass windows smashed and in the crosswalk, near the sidewalk.

“I don’t know what’s going,” Amin told The New York Post, as he stood beside the chaos. “I hit the brakes, hit the lamppost and flipped. I don’t remember.”

He appeared unharmed, but stated he was feeling pain in his head. He couldn’t recall where he picked up his female passenger–he claims she is doing well after the accident.

“People really rushed onto the scene, said Adam Gil to DNA Info, who works at the intersection. He heard a “loud screeching” then bang. He stated he watched as a pedicab driver pulled out Amin through the window. The woman passenger managed to crawl out of the cab on her own.

Both Amin and the passenger were taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition, police officers report. The pair weren’t in need of medical attention.
