Vegetarian diets are best for weight loss
Overweight and obesity have become greater problems than ever before. Vegetarian diets offer the most hope for losing weight.
Researchers have reported via Taylor and Francis that vegetarian diets are about twice as effective as conventional low calorie diets in lowering body weight. There is also an added benefit of improving metabolism by decreasing muscle fat in vegetarian only dieters.
There is an improvement in glucose and lipid metabolism when muscle fat is lost. Lead study author, Dr. Hana Kahleová, Director of Clinical Research at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington DC, says the findings in this research are therefore particularly important for people suffering from metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Kahleová has said vegetarian diets have proven to be the most effective diets for the loss of weight. However, it has also been shown that a vegetarian diet is significantly more effective in lowering muscle fat, therefore leading to an improvement in metabolism.
These findings are very significant for people who are attempting to lose weight. People who are suffering from metabolic syndrome and/or type 2 diabetes can clearly benefit from a vegetarian diet. However, these findings are also relevant for anyone who wants to be thin and healthy.
This study has been published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Researchers say their data indicates that a vegetarian diet is more effective in lowering subfascial fat and generally also lowers intramuscular fat more than a conventional low calorie diabetic diet. These findings are important for anyone who wants to maintain a healthy weight.
