Drinking beer in moderation can have some health benefits

Many people who look forward to a cold beer now and then nevertheless are deeply concerned that this does not have anything to actually offer for their health. However, research shows there may be health benefits to drinking beer in moderation.

Researchers at the National University of Singapore have reported they have created a new probiotic

beer that can help boost your immunity and improve the health of your gut. People who love beer may soon be able to enjoy a new type of beer which is friendly to the gut because this team of researchers has created a novel probiotic sour beer.

The probiotic strain Lactobacillus paracasei L26, which was first isolated the intestines of people, has been incorporated into this new beer. Lactobacillus paracasei L26 can neutralize toxins and viruses while also regulating the immune system.

Miss Chan Mei Zhi Alcine, who is a fourth-year student from the Food Science and Technology Program at the National University of Singapore had the idea to produce a probiotic beer. She regularly consumes dairy-based probiotic beverages. Alcine says that the health benefits of probiotics are very well known.

Research has shown consuming food and beverages which have live counts of probiotics are more effective in providing health effects than eating those which have inactive probiotics. At this time the recommendation by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics is to have a minimum of 1 billion probiotics for each serving in order to get the maximum benefits for health. The research team at the National University of Singapore has filed a patent in order to protect the recipe for brewing a new probiotic sour beer.

Moderate beer drinking can also lower the risk of heart attack in women reports the University of Gothenburg. In a Swedish study, it has been found that women who consume no more than a beer once or twice per week have about a 30 per cent lower risk of having a heart attack in comparison with both heavy beer drinkers and women who never drink any beer.
