Kim Kardashian Is Reportedly “Relieved to Be Able to Finally Move On” After Filing for Divorce From Kanye West
After months of speculation and source quotes from friends of the former couple, Kim Kardashian officially filed for divorce from Kanye West on Friday after seven years of marriage. And despite the moment being a long time in the making, initiating that legal process was reportedly still a very tough moment for the reality star.
“Although Kim and Kanye have been separated for months, it was still emotional for Kim to actually file for divorce,” a source confided to People. “She spent the weekend taking care of herself and her kids. She is spending time with her mom, sisters and hasn’t been working. Everyone is supportive. Kim feels very lucky to be surrounded by her big family.” The beauty mogul also apparently feels very lucky that “there is no drama” between her and her estranged husband. “Kim is mostly just disappointed that they couldn’t figure out how to stay married,” the source added. “But it takes two people to create a happy marriage. Kim has felt Kanye is not willing to do the hard work and compromise.”
According to E! News, there’s not only no interpersonal drama between Kim and Kanye, but also no drama in their ongoing divorce proceedings. Apparently, neither party is contesting their prenup and they’ve both already agreed to joint custody of their four children. The source explained that “Kim is doing OK. She’s mostly worried about her privacy and kids. She’s a mama bear and protective of her kids,” but the breakup has been “very amicable,” so far. As for how the kids are doing following the announcement, “North has some understanding of what’s going on, but mostly the kids have always seen them apart so it isn’t super surprising,” the insider said. A second source added, “Kim expressed to [the kids] that she loves their Dad but they need to be apart. They don’t fully understand what’s going on and are already used to the situation.” Kim is also “definitely sad but she feels confident in her decision…She’s already felt like she’s been divorced for months now. It’s been a long time coming and she feels relieved to be able to finally move on.”
West, meanwhile, is reportedly “upset” and “wishes they could have made it work,” but in the end, “They came to agreements on all fronts and Kanye was understanding of Kim’s wishes.” The reality star has been preparing to officially file for months now and ultimately decided to do it last week after she and Kanye were finally able to come to an agreement about how to divide their assets. But a source explained that the timing is also because “Kim was just tired of waiting. She tried to give it a chance. She wanted to do this last year. She gave it plenty of time but it’s just time to move on. There were no affairs. No one did anything bad. They grew apart.” The former couple are also apparently communicating with each other exclusively through lawyers and assistants. The source concluded, “Kim just wants it over.”
