Paranormal Investigator Dies During Tour with Allegedly Haunted Annabelle Doll

The New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) announced the sudden death of Dan Rivera, its 54-year-old lead paranormal investigator, during a national tour featuring the infamous Annabelle doll.

Rivera passed away on Sunday in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, while leading the Devils on the Run Tour. As part of the expedition, he and other NESPR members were transporting the supposedly haunted Raggedy Ann doll across multiple states.

First purchased in 1970 from a hobby store, the doll gained widespread recognition through the 2013 horror film The Conjuring. Originally given to a nursing student in Connecticut, Annabelle became known for reportedly moving independently and leaving mysterious “psychic slashes” on victims.

The doll was previously housed in the occult museum of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who had mentored Rivera. During the Gettysburg tour, Rivera shared Warren’s protective advice: “Close your eyes and envision yourself in a halo of white light.”

Francis Dutrow, the Adams County coroner, confirmed that Rivera’s cause of death remains undetermined pending an autopsy. County dispatch records indicate medical personnel responded to a CPR emergency at a Gettysburg hotel late Sunday evening. The coroner emphasized that the death was not suspicious, with Rivera found alone in his hotel room.

NESPR released a poignant statement mourning Rivera: “His integrity, creativity, and generosity defined him. Dan’s passion for the paranormal stemmed from a genuine desire to educate, help, and connect with others.”

The organization committed to continuing Rivera’s work, stating, “We believe Dan would have wanted our mission to continuebringing people together, sharing knowledge, and honoring Ed and Lorraine Warren’s legacy.”

The Guardian is seeking comment from Rivera’s family.
