Study Reveals Health Risks for Men with Low Sexual Activity

A recent study explores the potential link between sexual interest and longevity, examining how lack of sexual desire might correlate with mortality rates.

A lack of sex could almost double men’s risk of being sent to an early grave, a study suggests.

The research, published in scientific journals, investigated sexual interest as an indicator of positive relationships and overall health among 20,969 Japanese participants. By analyzing the connection between sexual interest and mortality, researchers sought to understand how psychological factors might influence life expectancy.

The study focused on participants under 40, tracking them from 2009 to 2015 through comprehensive self-reported questionnaires. These surveys captured detailed information including medical history, lifestyle factors, psychological well-being, and sexual interest.

Specifically, participants were asked a direct question: “Currently, do you have any interest in people of the opposite sex?” Responses were binary”yes” or “no”with those answering “no” categorized as lacking sexual interest.

Over the follow-up period, 503 participants died, including 162 from cancer and 67 from cardiovascular disease. Using advanced statistical methods like Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards modeling, researchers discovered significant findings.

The analysis revealed that men lacking sexual interest demonstrated notably higher risks of all-cause mortality. After adjusting for various health and lifestyle factors, men with diminished sexual interest showed substantially increased mortality rates compared to those maintaining sexual interest.

The study concluded that a lack of sexual interest could be a potential risk factor for mortality, particularly among Japanese males over 40. These findings underscore the complex relationship between psychological well-being, sexual health, and longevity.

The research highlights the importance of comprehensive health assessments that consider psychological and sexual dimensions beyond traditional medical metrics.
